Interpretations of sustainable by large organizations

Interpretations of sustainable by large organizations
Large companies state that they are sustainable when some of them mean being responsible. Companies like BP say that sustainable is having a responsible business including profit, consistency and performance. For other companies sustainability means keeping something long term. Nestle Says they are sustainable by keeping a long term value of their society, shareholders, employees, costumers and consumers.

  2. I prefer Nestle simply because they long term means they are doing something correctly or else the company would not be such a success. In addition to this sustainability is always thinking ahead which is in principal the same ting as long term.

  4. I like BP Caspian description because I feel that if people, themselves aren't responsible about their own sustainability they won't be able to develop long term and work as a society. (Rey)

  5. I would prefer Nestle because the long term means that they are doing something right or else the company would not be successful.

    1. I agree, I think some other companies may do more but they are only short term. Nestle does it long term

  6. Overall, I prefer Nestle because their definition of sustainable and aims to be sustainable shows that they are able to be sustainable not only in the short term but in the long term as well. They also value the society of the company as a whole.

  7. Interface has a process called 'Closing The Loop' which redesign their products so waste materials from previous projects, bio-based materials, etc. can be reused and recovered to make new products. These products can be sold and used, and this process starts again. A effective recycling process. They also help to develop businesses so they would value sustainability.

  8. I would pick Nestle because, they've been doing it for 140 years and still going and also, the business has a long term effect, with consumers, customers, employees, shareholders etc.. In my opinion i think the Nestle company is strong and has been successful for 140 years and still going.

  11. Interface has 7 goals, which they call the 7 Fronts of Mount Sustainability, to improve their environmental performance, such as eliminating waste in every area of business, benign emissions, using renewable energy sources and using resource efficient transport to reduce waste and emissions. They also achieved quite a lot in terms of their goals, such as 28% of total energy use is renewable energy, and their Total energy use per unit of output has reduced by 44% since 1996.

  12. i prefer the BP statement because sustainable development is about the future not the past, and it talks being responsible to achieve this

  13. I like BP's interpretation on sustainability because I feel that an extremely large being so coordinated and responsible is key in a big firm because many things can go wrong and if a big company especially one that extracts oil goes wrong there will be a huge negative impact on the environment such as an oil spill. I think every company has a different view of the word 'sustainable' but they all focus on making profit without compromising the future definitions.

  14. Interface has been focusing on sustainable development by using renewable energy resources such as: solar, wind, biomass geothermal, tidal. They also use low carbon emission vehicles that meet the highest euro emission standards to transport the carpet. The also use recycled material to make the carpets. Furthermore, they have a carpet recycling program called ReEntry. Customers can return used carpet and Interface will convert the carpet into raw materials for use in the production of new Interface products.

  17. Interface was the first company to truly start with sustainability. They believe that they can "cure" resource waste and even make it profitable, creative and practical. They do this in 5 ways. They eliminate waste in every possible area of business. Interface benign emissions by eliminating toxic substances from products, vehicles and facilities. They also use renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, tidal power, etc. They redesign processes and products to close the technical loop using recovered and bio-based materials. They use resource efficient transport to reduce waste and carbon emissions.

  18. I liked Interface Inc's very simple but still very effective idea on such a common item - carpets. They have looked at all aspects of the carpet like reducing CO2 emissions throughout the carpets life. glue free installation and recycling used carpets.

  20. I found interfaces ways and methods of recycling interesting and unique in the way that they recycle used carpets a specific machine called cool blue. They are also sustainable and use renewable energy which is healthy for the environment. They also closing the loop which involves reusing and redesign processes and products so that waste can be recovered to make new products. They encourage customers to return their used carpets at their “end of life” to create new carpets and by doing this, they create a closed loop system that reduces their dependency on virgin raw materials. More importantly, this contributes to their overall efforts to go “Off-Oil” (the yarn and vinyl backing of our carpet are derivatives of oil), a precious fossil fuel that needs to be preserved for future generations.

  21. Interface has done many things to try and make their company as sustainable as possible in this present day. They have installed recycling machines for leftover shreds of carpet which 'closes the loop'. During the process of recycling the carpets, heat is produced.

  23. Interface tried hard to lead their company with the most sustainability, for example they recycle used carpets using machines called "cool blue". It reduces maximum amount of CO2. It also reduces the consume of fossil fuels which is very sustainable.
