Climatic change and Bangladesh.
Thanks Karan for letting me see the presentation for the lesson I think students are really going to enjoy this and find it beneficial. For the other students I suspect Karan is going to ask you to find photographs to support his presentation I'm sure he will share his presentation with us on Google docs. Please say thanks to him as he's worked very hard for you on this presentation.
Add your questions to the comment section of this house and we will answer them in class.
Karan has kindly said I can post the feedback about his presentation so here it is just click on the link to hear.
Here is his presentation as well.
Observation: Lots of people have already lost their homes and lives to global warming. This is turning into a serious problem and clearly have to be resolved quickly. This is caused by HIC and MIC countries and the consequences have affected LICs like Bangladesh.
ReplyDeleteObservation: Tide is much higher alot a river erosion taking away houses. People haven't hear of Global warming but they will hear about it soon.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What has the Bangladesh government done to prevent further increase in water levels?
ReplyDeleteObservation:
ReplyDeleteRiver erosion can be catastrophic and buildings can be destroyed. This can potentially split families and leave many homeless. Rising sea levels have rised and the rate of erosion is increasing. A serious problem which needs looking into.
Question:
ReplyDeleteWhat is the meeting looking at?
What will changing weather and rising sea levels do to the communities?
Observation:
Some people in a community in have lost everything as the sea has risen and destroyed their farmland.
Question: How is river erosion increasing due to global warming?
ReplyDeleteObservation: They only mentioned the human cause of global warming
Question: what can the people in Bangladesh do about global warming and preventing losing their lives and houses to it?
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What is the increase in rate of rising sea levels?
ReplyDeleteObservation: Bangladesh's sea levels are rising a lot, people have are having to move. The problem has to be resolved quickly
ReplyDeleteQuestion: If the people of Bangladesh were warned earlier, could they have been more prepared for the fate of their country?
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What is being done right now or what can be done to combat this problem?
ReplyDeleteObservation: Many people injured, lost homes due to high level of sea rise and flood.
ReplyDeleteRey
DeleteObservation: Lots of land has been lost, high levels of salinity due to rise in sea level. Most people live near coasts and river because of water supply and other resources. But now these people are finding themselves in extreme danger and they are too poor to move away since their jobs are either based fishing at sea or either farming and extracting stuff like rice. Overall I believe since Bangladesh suffers extreme poverty government should intervene and provide people with better and safer infrastructure so they don;t stay homeless. Also, I believe people deserve to get a clean fresh water supply and waters with extreme salinity.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 1: Activity 1: Outline some of the future effects of the climate change.
ReplyDeleteDue to Bangladesh being poor and having a high density population, there are many factors and attributes of disaster. Flash floods, droughts, season changes, saline increase, sea level rise and lack of crops deters the country. Because of being poor, the country doesn’t have enough money to repair devastated buildings or even build and means of defence against natural storms. Low lying land is a disadvantage when it comes to flooding.
Activity one: Outline some of the future effects of the climate change
ReplyDeleteClimate change causes ice caps to melt, therefore the rise in sea level will affect Bangladesh as it has small elevation above sea level, making it vulnerable to natural disasters, such as flooding. Sea water will flow in the soil, damaging the soil and there will be less land for farming and growing crops, which will cause a rise in the price for crops as there will be less available but a higher demand for it. Climate change causes temperature to increase, making it a more suitable environment for pests and pathogens that will increase number of people infected with diseases such as malaria.
• Sea levels will continue to increase, flooding the farmland and destroying homes and leaving millions homeless. The melting snow in the Himalayas causes flooding in Bangladesh.
ReplyDelete• The river erosion will also contribute to people losing homes and salinity of the water will seep into the soil.
• This will cause the population to migrate into higher areas than low-laying areas in the countryside. Major cities will overpopulate and migrants will most likely be living in slums and engaging in informal economic activities.
• Crop yield will decrease of this factor and droughts, etc. Food security would be lost and prices will rise.
Activity 1: In the future the climate will change drastically. The temperature will rise at an increasing rate. Not only will the temperature rise but the water level will increase resulting in destruction of farms near rivers, lakes and other large bodies of water. This decrease in amount of crops will result in larger starvation in poor countries and the demand for food will rise, over a long time causing a decrease in population.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How does global warming, rising sea-level, and climate change affect the villagers in Bangladesh?
ReplyDeleteObservation: Farmland for farmers becoming smaller, forced to abandon home. Climate changes and rising sea-level are reasons why.15 year-old Reina lost everything because of rising river, getting cared by charity.
result of global climate change. IPPC report looking climate change.
Review: Bangladesh's gets the high rising sea levels, Snow melting from the Himalayas causing floods and also the weather of the thunderstorms etc.. get stronger. Climate change effect the crops of the farm, e.g high temperature, heavy monsoon, storms, which reduces the country developing. Crops need seasons to grow, because the seasons are changing and its harder for farmers to grow plants, or is impossible to grow plants.
ReplyDeleteActivity 1: between 1990 to 2075 the average temperature, average precipitation is increasing, during the winter and Monsoon This is a big impact on the local environment and the country is a LIC ( Low income country ) which means when there are floods, etc.. it will be hard to redevelop the houses that have been destroyed by the storms and many more.
